One of my favourite things about Christmas is the way that everything gets a bit more sparkly. The tree goes up, Christmas lights come on and your social media feed is full of festive posts. It’s a great time to give your marketing a bit of extra shine and it’s easier than you might think. The important thing is to create a Christmas feel but without losing your brand identity. Here are just five simple ways that you can get your marketing design ready for Christmas.
Choose the right font
A different font can instantly make your marketing feel more festive. Choosing a font that’s similar to the ones you use the rest of the year means that your brand is still recognisable but has a different feel. It’s a great idea to use a script based font as they look like handwriting so feel more personal. You can use it everywhere from social media posts to Christmas cards. Just make sure that it’s readable and opt for a clearer font for more detailed information.
Think about colour
What are the colours that spring to mind when you first think of Christmas? I’m guessing you’re imagining red and green. They’re classic colours but you don’t have to choose them if they don’t suit your brand. If your brand colours are cool blues or purple, silver or foil effects can work really well too. Think about what colours suit your brand personality. If you do choose red adding gold can give your designs a more luxurious feel. Try Googling Christmas images or look on Pinterest for inspiration.
Find the right images
The images you use at Christmas can be in the same style as the ones you use the rest of the time. Your target audience doesn’t change just because it’s Christmas and the right images will help you share the things that attracted them to your business in the first place. Think about what they need at Christmas and what’s going to make them feel good. That could mean cosy images with log fires and hot chocolate, family fun or something to make them laugh when they’re busy and stressed. What will work with your branding?
Add some sparkle
If you want to keep your branding consistent you can stick with your brand colours for Christmas but add sparkle in another way. Changing your images could be enough, or you could add festive motifs to your social media templates and even your logo. I once added Santa hats to a company logo for their Christmas campaign. You could add Father Christmas, elves or angels or even just some snowflakes. There are some great effects that you can add to your backgrounds or borders too. Glitter and bokeh light effects can add some subtle sparkle.
Work with the season
Maybe you don’t want to create a specific Christmas design but still want to reflect the season. That’s fine too. You can opt for a design that reflects winter without having any Christmas elements in it. Frosty trees and snow scenes all evoke the season and make your audience think of Christmas by association. This works really well if your brand colours are cool as you can use blues, white and silver to create something classic and stylish. It also means that your audience will see it and still associate it with your brand.
