5 ways to gain new customers

Networking

If you’re self employed, surrounding yourself with a network of other self employed people can be one of the most powerful tools you have! I’m so grateful to have such an amazing network around me, plus friends and even acquaintances who recommend me to their friends, or to people looking for design services. The more people you know and can connect with professionally the better! 

I’m very much looking forward to getting back to an in-person networking meeting tomorrow, after months of not being able to or meeting online, I can’t wait!

Identifying 

It’s important to identify your ideal client or target audience. If you can work out who will use your service or product, you can then tailor your marketing towards their interests or which social media platform you’re most likely to find them on. Perhaps your service is mainly used by men, or by parents, or by someone of a certain age group, or by business owners? If you know, you can find the best way to reach them.

 

Locating

Do you need your customers to be nearby? Is your service or product something that needs to be face to face, or can you work remotely, connecting by emails, phonecalls or videocalls? 

I’m sure this past year has shown many people how easily we can stay connected whilst physically apart. For me, since working as a freelance designer, I’ve always worked from home, with customers all over the UK and Ireland. If you’ve seen my map, you’ll have seen that I’m hoping to reach customers in as many areas as possible!

 

Helping

Offering advice and helping people will build on your reputation of being a knowledgable, reliable person, and an expert in your field. If you’re supportive to your social media audience, they’ll see how supportive you’ll also be to your customers, and hopefully will turn to you when they need your services/product!

 

Responding

Always make sure you reply to any enquiries or emails as quickly as you can. Of course we all need down-time, time away from work and from our devices, but if you can reply in a timely fashion, your customers will be reassured that you’re reliable and dependable.
